The Hills of Devonshire

Toorington is a little village in Devonshire; a county in the south west of England. Toorington life is its people. Rachel Hall, the landlady of the Queen's Head, Bruce, the Vicar of St.Pauls, and, today, we're getting to know Andrew Roberts.

Andrew Roberts is a farmer. His farm, Cherry Tree Farm, is a very big farm. Cherry Tree Farm is a dairy farm. And, Andrew Roberts has a very big herd of cows.

Andrew Roberts has 500 Guernsey Cows. Guernsey cows are famous for two things. Their yield and the very good taste of their milk. Both very important.

Andrew Roberts produces milk, yoghurts, whipped cream, and Cheddar Cheese. All very tasty products. Andrew's cows are happy cows. They are outside in the field all year round. Whatever the weather. Only the pigs are inside.

Of course, Andrew isn't alone. He has a wife and three children. Two boys and one girl. The boys are 14 and 15, and his daughter is 9. His sons help on the farm. 

 Judith, Andrew's wife, has a job. Judith is a teacher at the primary school.

Bruce - The Vicar of Toorington

Bruce is the Vicar of Toorington. He is a popular man. Bruce is married to Margret; they have two grown up daughters and 4 grandchildren.  Bruce and Margret live in the vicarage. 

Toorington's Church is a beautiful Norman Church. It is very old. St. Paul's Church was built about 800 years ago.

Every Sunday, Bruce stands in the pulpit and preaches a sermon. Always wonderful words. Everyone loves Bruce's sermons.

St. Paul's Church in Toorington is well known for its Norman architecture. Its arches and its nave are very, very special.

The congregation of St. Paul's is also very interesting. Old and young. Andrew Roberts, a local Farmer, is one of the congregation's oldest members. Andrew Roberts has never missed a Sunday.

 Rachel Hall is the landlady of the Queen's Head; Toorington's pub. Rachel Hall is a very popular lady. Ray, as she is known, is no longer young. Somewhere between 60 and 80. But, Rachel Hall is a very distinguished lady. A timeless lady of very fine taste.

But, Ray isn't only charming and nice. Ray can be very strict, too. There is no misbehaving at the Queen's Head.

And, where is Ray now? Ray is working behind the bar. And, what is Ray doing? Ray is pulling a pint for the Vicar of Toorington. Bruce is his name. And, Bruce is one of Ray's regulars.
